Under Rich Earth tells of an extraordinary and overlooked collision between the global mining corporation Ascendent Copper and the rural families of Ecuador’s Intag Valley. Directed by Malcom Rogge, the documentary had its world premiere at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Real to Reel Program.
 
Under Rich Earth screens Sunday, March 1st,  7 PM, at Jackman Hall, Art Gallery of Ontario. Director Malcom Rogge will be the Guest Speaker for the evening.

An interview with the the British director, Ken Loach, talking about his film, It’s A Free World… The story centres around the brash and blonde Angie (Kierston Wareing), who is laid off from a recruiting company that brings workers from Poland to the United Kingdom. Angie persuades her flat-mate and long-time friend Rose to take a huge leap into the void and start their own recruiting agency.
 
It’s A Free World… screens Saturday, February 28th, 7 PM, at Jackman Hall.
 
Julia Hall, Counsel and Senior Researcher, at Human Rights Watch will be the guest speaker for this screening.

Friday, February 27th – Remnants of a War

Remnants of a War takes an intimate look into the lives of the brave women and men who work shoulder to shoulder to clear the thousands of cluster munitions that were dropped on South Lebanon during the 2006 war between Hezbollah and Israel.
 
Director Jawad Metni will be attendance at the screening, which is scheduled for Friday, Febuary 27th, 7 PM, at Jackman Hall.

Screening Thursday, February 26th, 9 PM, at Jackman Hall, Snijeg (Snow), director Aida Begic’s touching story about several women and children in a Bosnian village trying to survive on their own in the wake of the conflict that ripped Yugoslavia apart.
 
Guest speaker for the evening will be Carol Off, Host of CBC’s “As it Happens.”

Director Amos Gitaï talks about his film, Plus tard, tu comprendras (One Day You’ll Understand), this year’s selection for the Toronto Human Rights Watch Film Festival Opening Night Gala.
 
Guest speaker for the evening is Erna Paris author of Unhealed Wounds: France and the Klaus Barbie Affair and seven other books.
