French TV interview with Welcome director Philippe Lioret.
 
Philippe Lioret has been writing and directing films in France since his 1993 debut, Lost in Transit. His 2006 film, Don’t Worry, I’m Fine (Je vais bien, ne t’en fais pas) received 5 César nominations, including Best Film and Best Director. Mr. Lioret was nominated for Lumiere Awards (France’s Golden Globes) in the categories of Best Director and Best Screenplay for Welcome.
 
Welcome screens Saturday, February 27th, 9 PM at Jackman Hall, Art Gallery of Ontario, part of the 7th annual Toronto Human Rights Watch Film Festival.

Last Train Home @ Sundance

Last Train Home, which opens the 7th annual Toronto Human Rights Watch Film Festival, is one of 12 documentary films in competition at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The festival opened last Thursday and continues until January 31st in Park City, Utah.

Feedback via Twitter after the film’s first screening on Friday was uniformly positive:

In this interview, shot during the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, Eshaghian candidly discusses her experiences filming in Iran, her tremendous respect for the Persian sense of community, and what she hopes average viewers will take away from seeing the film.

Video: Actor Christopher Lee Talks About The Nature of War

Actor Christopher Lee at a post screening press conference for Triage. In the film, Lee plays Joaquín Morales, a psychiatrist with a dark past. A much appreciated character actor, Lee has starred in more than 250 films.
 
In this video, Lee shares his views on the nature of war and recalls his dark memories of WWII. He enlisted in the RAF in 1941 later joining the Rank Organization and going on to appear as a spear carrier in Laurence Olivier’s film version of Hamlet.

Last Train Home | Human Rights Watch Film Festival

CityNews recently spoke with director Lixin Fan, who was born and raised in China before moving to Montreal to further his film career, about the process of making Last Train Home and what he hopes the audience will get from it. A transcript of the interview has been posted to CityNews.ca.
