Student Outreach

The Student Outreach Program

The Student Outreach Program was initiated in the fall of 2007 by the Human Rights Canada Film Festival Subcommittee as a way to create awareness around important human rights issues.

The subcommittee began working initially with professors and student volunteers from the University of Toronto, York University, and Humber College.  In 2009, Ryerson University joined the list of participating institutions.

Student committees work with organizers of the Toronto Human Rights Watch Film Festival to increase student participation in the festival, primarily through the sale of reduced-rate tickets on campus.

The Ryersonian article on student involvement with the HRW Film Festival is online. One student’s story says it all – a film can change your view of the world and your life. “The Green Wave” and “You Don’t Like The Truth” are two of the films mentioned in the article. Our thanks to Alexandra MacAulay Abdelwahab for her excellent reporting.
