A big “thank you” to the Ryerson students in Prof. Robert Teigrob’s Global Studies class who participated in the Service Learning program and organized the “Special Flight” screening on campus. Several students produced excellent power point presentations on the Human Rights Watch Film Festival and highlighted the various films they saw at the 2012 Festival.

This year’s Festival could not have been pulled off so seamlessly without the unwavering support and involvement of conscious and engaged students from various campuses. Whether they were promoting the Festival at their own campus, volunteering at a screening or simply attending, Human Rights Watch acknowledges and appreciates the support that students bring to the Festival and to our overarching goal of spreading awareness of human rights abuses worldwide.

Ryerson Screening of “Special Flight”

On Thursday, March 1st Ryerson students welcomed Executive Producer Elise Shubs for a special screening of “Special Flight” at Ryerson University. The screening was well received by students and was followed by a panel discussion about the situation for refugees in Canada led by HRW Canada Committee member and lawyer, Jennifer Egsgard.

Student tickets for the Toronto Human Rights Watch Film Festival are on sale for $5 at campus locations across the GTA.

The festival opens tomorrow evening with Lixin Fan’s Last Train Home.

Tickets are still available for the 6:30 screening at the Isabel Bader Theatre. Please call the TIFFG Box Office at 416-968-FILM or toll-free 1-877-968-FILM. Tickets can also be purchased online at tiff.net/cinematheque or in person at the theatre (night of show only).
